Hello! We're the Transformational Governance Collective - a group trying to understand and practise forms of governance that are more equitable and life-affirming.
We formed in 2021 with funding from Lankelly Chase Foundation and have also received grants from Thirty Percy Foundation and Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
The Living Notebook is where our reflections and learning now live. It gathers the questions, experiments and tensions that have come out of our own practice as a collective and our years of stewarding the wider transformational governance community.
It's organised around five threads: stewarding, money, power, learning and participation. There are also entry points via enquiry questions, practices, tensions and a glossary. It's a living document, so it will keep changing.
Our vision is:
A society in which the ways we all work and organise are in healthy relationship with power, trust and care. Accountability for meeting the needs of all beings within the means of the planet, is held through life-affirming, equitable, transparent governance.
We practise collaborative governance within our stewarding group, we’ve created resourced inquiry spaces for those working to transform their governance, and we contribute to an evolving field of practice.
As part of a growing ecosystem of transformational governance practitioners, we want to contribute to an interconnected set of activities and experimental spaces that catalyse, deepen and sustain transformational governance practice. In the long term, we hope for this network to make change at all layers of the ecosystem, building collective leverage to shift rules and norms from grassroots through to funding and regulatory bodies in the UK.
We have some limited grant funding to share what we’ve curated through the Living Notebook and reflect on what comes next.
We shared the Notebook for the first time in July 2026 and plan to host more events and conversations in the Autumn and Winter. Sign up to the mailing list to make sure you hear about them.
The Transformational Governance Community is an online Slack space to connect, learn and further practice transformational governance approaches with others who are interested in this work.
